For this episode of Fit with Fallon, I wanted to step up my fitness game and look, feel and train like an athlete. I knew the perfect place to do so, and that was Xplode training center in Chatsworth where real athletes train.

I met up with Troy Lewis, a trainer at Xplode who trains athletes both on the pro and amateur levels. He worked with me on agility, speed, strength, plyometrics and core training. We used equipment that is not neceissarily found in your typical gym, like the vertimax machine, battle ropes, plyo-mats, and a sandpit with a bungee cord.

Below I broke down my complete workout and described the benefits of each exercise for both the athlete and regular person. I can honestly say this was such an intense workout. I was able to push my body to limits I have never pushed myself before. The facility does have your normal machines and equipment as well like treadmills, barbells, and smith machines, but it was definitely nice to switch up and use equipment I wasn’t very familiar with.

Dynamic Warm Up: I began with a dynamic warm up which you warm up the body with a series of exercises and stretches to help with range of motion and fire up the muscles to help increase your performance. You never want to stretch while your muscles are not warmed up, this could cause injury. My dynamic warm up consisted of a combination of light jogging, side shuffles, leg kickback stretches, planks and push ups.

Vertimax Machine: Next I used a platform device that provides low impact plyometric jump training called the vertimax machine, it helps with leg strength and explosiveness. Troy had me do a combination of squat jumps with both the resistance cables hooked on to me, and without. I also did sets of single leg split jumps with a set of the bands on and then another set off.

Box Jumps:  I worked on my vertical jump doing box jumps. I did 3 sets of 20 jumps on 3 different levels of mats. Jumping on a stack of mats is much safer than jumping on regular plyo-boxes that are not padded. I have seen a lot of shins split open due to accidents doing this exercise. It was nice not having to worry about getting injured while doing this exercise. Read more

LoLo Jones Wants Her Bobsled Booty Back!

Screen shot 2014-07-17 at 2.03.28 PM

Olympian LoLo Jones, known for her  long jump between sports, she went from running track to bobsledding. In order to do so LoLo had to pack on the pounds, not just a couple of pounds, but thirty pounds to be able to hang with the other bobsledders.

Talk about all you can eat, this female athlete had to adhere to a strict 9,000 calorie diet to pack on the weight, including eating double bacon cheeseburgers and three 1,000 calorie protein shakes a day.

After competing at the Olympics in Russia for the American team, she decided to make the leap back over to track. This meant it was time for her to take off the pounds.

LoLo explained in an interview with ThePostGame.com even though she was happy to see the weight come off,  she was sad to see her booty go.

“It’s really tough, because I thought I could lose all the weight and I didn’t. I am still about 7 lbs overweight. And it’s not the way you want to keep it.. at first I had that nice bobsled butt, that I worked so hard to get, and I was like Yes!, this is going to stay, and all this other stuff is going to go…and the butt was the first thing to go and I was like NOOO!!! That’s the one thing I wanted to stay.”

Well LoLo if you win another medal in track, it will be well worth it! But consuming 9,0000 calories a day. Now that’s what you call dedication.

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” Says Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers.

That is one of Kapernicks favorite qoutes, and that’s exactly what he did for ESPN’s body issue. Along with 12 other athletes who got “uncomfortable” baring it all, including NBA player John Wall and volleyball player Kerri Walsh Jennings.

The body issue is ESPN’s annual magazine specifically dedicated to admiring the human form of an athlete.

Besides baring it all in the magazine, each athlete answered questions about their careers and the bodies that have led them there. Check out what these three athletes had to say;

ESPN:What would you define as your edge mentally?

Colin Kaepernick: Your mind can make your body do things you don’t think it can. So I push myself to be uncomfortable. If my body is feeling perfect, if I’ve got no aches, pains or soreness, something is wrong.

ESPN: What do you like about your body?

John Wall: I think my best feature are my abs. They’re cut up. Last year, when I was injured, I got overweight and I didn’t like myself because I had a big belly, and that’s not what I want to be. I like to stay in shape, and I like to be fit even when I’m not playing. So I’ve been doing a lot of sit-
