Eva Longoria Opens Up About Her Health & Her Kitchen

Picture 24

“You don’t have anything if you don’t have your health”

Ain’t that the truth!

Eva Longoria knows all about almost losing it all, after her devastating divorce from NBA player Tony Parker. The divorce caused her such a depression, that it had a serious impact on her health.

Paying a visit to the Dr. Oz show, Eva opened up about the health issues that she experienced during her split from her x husband.

“That’s probably the time I got the most compliments because I was so skinny..I was not eating, I was depressed, I was sad, I think my diet was coffee. People kept on saying “you look amazing, divorce agrees with you” and I was like I don’t feel good, I have no energy, I didn’t know I was depressed. I went to the doctor to get some blood test because I knew something was wrong. and I was just depleted of every vitamin. He (Eva’s doctor) said it was as if someone took a straw and sucked (every vitamin out). He said you don’t have any iron, your liver is overacting, all of these things were physically wrong with my body. So I had to saturate with vitamins, to kind of get back on track”

After getting her health back on board, she also wanted to help others nurture and take care of their health. She created a cook book called Eva’s Kitchen which she includes some healthy Mexican recipes. She says;

“Mexican food can get really healthy, I think it’s a myth that its unhealthy”

Check out her yummy Chilli Rubbed Skirt Steak Taco recipe below, where she recommends using corn tortillas instead of flour, lean meats and all fresh ingredients including vegetables.

Steve Nash Is Sugar Free

Picture 9

Steve Nash has been playing in the NBA for over 17 years. As a veteran, taking good care of his body is high on his priority list, so he made it a point to see naturopath, Dr. Suneil Jain to help him out.

A naturopath is a therapists who practices natural healing methods and pushes a whole-foods diet, one that consists of lots of raw fruits and vegetables.

Jain taught Nash how important it is to cut sugar out of his diet. The average American eats about 92 grams of sugar a day, when the human body needs only about eight grams for energy, an amount that should always be satisfied through natural sugars from fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains. Refined sugars, impair your immune system. One teaspoon of refined sugar suppresses white blood cells for up to six hours, making it a lot easier to catch a cold.

After hearing such a a convincing case, Nash made the necessary diet change.

“I really can’t afford colds during the season, so that’s all I needed to hear: I cut out refined sugars cold turkey. No M&M’s at the movies, no energy bars, no Gatorade – I even had to be more careful when going to Jamba Juice, because sometimes they use sugar-filled juice from concentrate. After a few months, I stopped craving sugar entirely.”

He explains that the difference was instantaneous:

“I slept better, I recovered from workouts more easily, and I had more energy. When we started training camp in September, we were doing two-a-days – four or five hours on the court – and I never got sore. Even more telling is the fact that this summer I traveled all over the world for my foundation, bringing team sports to war-ravaged countries. I was missing out on sleep and still training the whole time, but I never got sick. I’ve got to think it’s because sugar wasn’t wearing me down.”

Cutting out all refined sugars from ones diet may be difficult for many. Nash admits even he struggled with it and had to make necessary changes:

“No doubt, this lifestyle is not easy – sugar gets sneaked into just about everything, so I have to pack my own food. But it doesn’t bother me, because the way I feel (now) is so worth it.”

DWTS: Dancer Who Lost Her Leg In Boston Marathon Bombing

Picture 5

Only two weeks have past since the tragic Boston Marathon event. Being from Massachusetts, this tragedy hit close to home for me, literally. It definitely hit close to home for the whole nation, so much so that a lot of television shows have been paying tribute to those who lost their lives and were effected in the bombing.

Last week, announced that Adrianne Haslet, a ballroom dancer who lost her leg in the horrific event would be appearing on Dancing With The Stars and last night she did.

Adrianne had her time to shine and was able to tell her story on the DWTS episode. She promised, on air,  that after she lost her leg, that she would dance again.

“I was in such a dark place mentally, i thought everything was over. My recovery has been tough…but the more I am forced to face it, the better I am, even though it is impossibly hard to deal with sometimes. I absolutely will dance again, and I will do whatever it takes to get there”.

I have a feeling we will be seeing Adrianne dancing away on the next season, and I am sure all of America will be voting for her and cheering her on.

Check out the inspirational clip of Adrianne sharing the horrible event that caused her to lose her leg, but how she still finds the hope and determination to dance again. Click here
